"CAN YOU CHALLENGE THE FLY?

The biggest event of the winter is returning on Thursday January 23rd, 2020 to Dead End BBQ in Knoxville, TN. The Great Smoky Mountain Trout Unlimited presents the 5TH Annual "IRON MAN FLY CONTEST 2020".

This premiere winter event brings together both the experienced and the amateur fly tier in a fast paced "Battle Royale" of fly tying. Everyone no matter what their skill level is on a level playing field as they compete attempting to tie a fly with the wildest collection of material the judges can throw at them.

The laughter and cheering of the spectators is only one element of distraction they must overcome as the clock ticks down to the final winner of three rounds of fly tying.

The reason they compete for the fly tying championship of all time is simple. The winners are going home with brand new fly rods and the latest gear donated by our sponsors who make it all possible.

The "IRON MAN FLY CONTEST 2020" also has an even bigger mission than an evening of fun and competition with a chance to win valuable prizes. This one night event makes it possible through the competitors entry fees to send a young boy or girl, ages 12-15 years old to "TROUT CAMP" each summer in the Great Smoky Mountains National Forest. No matter whether the fly tiers win or lose the ultimate winners is the children who get to experience a week at the best camp in the Smokies!
