THINGS THAT GO BUMP IN THE NIGHT!  WHAT WAS THAT?......

THURSDAY, MAY 18TH 6PM-BLACKHORSE PUB 4429 KINGSTON PIKE, KNOXVILLE TN 37919

Our bear series continues, come, see and hear about the great work the Appalachian Bear Rescue group does in the Smokies! Mr. David Whitehead has joined the staff of Appalachian Bear Rescue as assistant curator after 33 years with TWRA.

Mr. Whitehead just ended his career as the manager on Tellico Lake WMA and South Cherokee in Region 3. He was also the recipient of the 2016 TWRA biologist of the year award. Over his career, Mr. Whitehead participated in the restoration of black bear, white-tailed deer, wild turkey, river otter and elk.  In particular, his work with black bear populations has been exemplary.  Mr. Whitehead was involved in relocating about 250 black bears, some of which were rehabilitated black bear cubs through his work with the Appalachian Bear Rescue (ABR) center.

This is part of the continuing series about our biggest neighbors in the Smokies, and these are the people who rescue the orphaned cubs and raise them to be reintroduced back in to the Park. We are proud to present Part Two of this series. As a TU chapter with the Great Smoky Mountains National Park as our home base and members who spend time deep in the woods this is one subject you can never know too much about. P.S....ask me about the TU Southeast Regional Meeting members who met one Saturday night strolling Gatlinburg with them!
