Mmm...Hot dogs!...See ya at River John's!"

Letter From Chapter President

Half the year is gone...wait what did you just say? It is hard to believe but we just hit the halfway mark, summer is in full swing with 90 degree days and humidity. Was it not just yesterday we were wondering when the cold rain would end? I hope everyone is making the most of summer with vacations, and spending time with family and friends over the 4th of July.

Speaking of celebrating, make your calendars as we gather with the Little River TU chapter for the annual cook-out at River John's Island. Located just minutes from downtown Knoxville and before the airport this island jewel is one of my favorite meetings of the year. If you have never been before do not miss this one. See the article below for all the news and information.

The month of July also brings the annual Big Clinch River Cleanup on Saturday July 13th, 2019. Sponsored by the Clinch River TU chapter this long running event starts at 8am at the Museum of Appalachia in just off the Norris Freeway. Get there early for a free kickoff breakfast.

Last week we posted on the GSM TU Facebook page that the "BATTLE of GATLINBURG 2019" was now up and running on its designated website. The "One Fly Royale" Fly Fishing Tournament in downtown Gatlinburg is the most unique angler competition in America and is now in its third year. The date is Saturday, September 28th, 2019 at 8am right on River Rd. in Gatlinburg, TN, remember this is a free event for spectators. Join us as anglers compete for over $3,000 in cash and prizes !

All of our past sponsors are again supporting the "BATTLE of GATLINBURG 2019" with their help and generous donations. In addition, look for an upcoming article from our friends and longtime sponsor Don Kirk, publisher of Southern Trout Magazine. Check out the article below for all the details and volunteer opportunities available and a complete list of our sponsors.

As always thanks to everyone who attends our meetings and events. It is your chapter and we invite you to get involved this summer. Please bring family and friends and remember you never have to be a Trout Unlimited member to attend a Great Smoky Mountain TU chapter activity, just a love of the outdoors and the fellowship of those who feel the same.

In closing please follow us on the GSM TU Facebook page and website. The GSM TU Facebook page is the best way to stay up to date with current changes and information.
