Letter from Great Smoky Mountain TU President

Letter From Chapter President

SPECIAL NOTICE

As many of you have heard, at the last meeting we announced we were needing to search for a new meeting place. After many years of holding our chapter meetings at the Blackhorse Pub they are expanding production into the area where we held our monthly gathering. After an exhaustive search and with the approval of chapter officers and board members we have found a new location!

Starting on Monday, November 27th, 2017 we will be gathering at Rooster's which is located just up the road in the Rocky Hill neighborhood in Bearden. It is at 7585 S. Northshore, Knoxville TN 37919, literally just one turn off of Kingston Pike and straight up Northshore in the same shopping centers as Sullivans, both which are neighborhood landmarks.

I want to thank the Blackhorse Pub for their always gracious reception for our meetings and cannot say enough good things about their help anytime we asked for it. They are and will continue to be a part of the Great Smoky Mountain Trout Unlimited family!

Our first meeting will be a week later than usual due to the Thanksgiving holiday so I would like to think of it as the first holiday party of the year! We are fortunate that our first presentation in our new location at Rooster's will be Brett Winchell and Matt Crockett, founding members of "VOLS on the FLY" 5 Rivers TU chapter, and recent University Of Tennessee graduates. If you remember they were two of just five chosen this year from across the country to travel for 10 weeks and 10 western states as part of the Trout Unlimited 5 Rivers program. It was a trip of a lifetime as they worked on conservation projects and fished some of America's greatest rivers and streams. If you will also remember their work with video and film narratives in our event promotions you can only imagine what they captured on this journey!

Also this coming Thursday night, November 9th, 2017 is the annual Clinch River TU chapter's swap meet. This will be a big one for them this year as we are taking a huge amount of fly tying gear from feathers, hackle, hooks and everything in between. These are items that remain from the Great Smoky Mountain TU chapter member's Les Graham's collection sale we held in September. Do not miss this second chance to see and purchase this treasure trove of fly fishing and tying gear. It starts at 7pm, but I would get there a little early, "We are dealin and you are the winner!"

I personally want to encourage everyone to attend the next chapter meeting on Monday at 6:00 P.M November 27th at Rooster's 7585 S. Northshore, Knoxville, TN. It will be a new page in our chapter's history and I would like to have it start with a large crowd as we celebrate the holiday season. Join us as we welcome Brett & Matt of the "VOLS on the FLY" TU 5 Rivers presentation.

As always you never have to be a Trout Unlimited member to attend our events. Bring a friend, co-worker, and the family as we welcome everyone to Rooster's in Rocky Hill.
