We are truly excited about this new student-lead group," VOLS ON THE FLY". This club was just organized by students and officially recognized by the UT administration on October 1st. Trout Unlimited's 5 Rivers program works in conjunction with student chapters across the country to encourage not just fly fishing, but conservation and volunteering to the community it is formed in. The Great Smoky Mountain and Little River TU chapters were approached by this group and asked to help them achieve these goals and to help in an advisory role also.

Mike Bryant, my friend (unless we are fishing),  and also president of the Little River TU chapter and I attended the first meeting on campus and were knocked out by the members that night. It would only be an understatement on my part to say how encouraging it was to see these young fly fishing aficionados forming their own club. The future looks bright for fly fishing when you see this on a college campus; especially knowing it is taking place across the country!

Zac Grava, the spokesperson for the group has already presented the introduction of their goals at the last two Great Smoky chapter TU meetings. If you have not been to those meetings it is impressive to see this young man speak confidently of their mission.

Below is a link to a a program called "Tilt", this is a funding kickstarter they have just put online. They are raising funds to purchase a number of TFO fly rods for their organization. A minimum of just $10 or more if you choose; will help them reach their goal. TFO like many corporations have become part of the 5 Rivers TU program, a positive way for companies and groups to assist these clubs.

This is my first time using a kickstarter program, but very easy to use and almost automatic, just follow the steps. I used the email method, it puts a hold on your contribution and will only charge you if the group meets it's goal or time runs out! Call or email if any questions on how to use or sign up!
