Clinch River Clean-Up Highlights -July 25th

Here are a few shots from the Clinch River Clean-Up hosted by the Clinch River TU this past Saturday, July 25, 2015. This was the third year for this big cleanup with members of all three TU chapters in our region, individuals, and various volunteer community groups pitching in to clean the Clinch River from the road, to the banks and even the river bottom. Over 100 volunteers joined in to help this year, with the morning starting with a great breakfast and logistic meeting at the Museum of Appalachia on Norris Freeway/61. As always from the usual standard litter to tires and everything in between was hauled off to help clean the Clinch. (Here are first totals from Clinch chapter-"Despite murky water from heavy rain earlier in the week, workers pulled 70 tires from the water, picked up 89 bags of trash, and collected 1,600 pounds of miscellaneous metals plus one queen-size mattress." "They did leave behind for the professionals two dangerous finds: one-pot meth labs located on River Road and at Peach Orchard.") I was there for the discovery of one of the soda-pop meth labs at Peach Orchard, it is a sad commentary of our society, take note these are usually in green soda bottles we tag the area near them with a red flag, do not touch them until a properly trained crew comes in and disposes of them! Check the Clinch TU page for more shots as they add to their website: http://crctu.org/
