Letter From Chapter President

Welcome to the Holiday Season.....ready or not it has begun! It is always amazing to turn around this time of year and find yourself less than 60 days from the New Year.

November has already started with a great event at Fly Tyers Weekend this past week sponsored by Little River Outfitters in Townsend TN. It is being said it was the best one yet and I believe that is true. We had a large number of people sign up for the free fly drawing and the randomly drawn winners will be contacted and mailed their dozen flies as promised. Plans are already in the works by for next year. Long time event organizer Anthony Hipps did another tremendous job and deserves a big thanks once again.He has been a good friend to our GSM TU chapter and it is always a pleasure to work with him and the fly tiers who donate their time and flies to organizations like ourselves from the event.

We also want to send congratulations to 3 Rivers Angler, they just celebrated a milestone with their 8th anniversary this week. As a longtime GSM TU chapter sponsor we wish owner Allen Gillespie and 3 Rivers Angler continued success!

We are also looking forward to Saturday November 9th, 2019 as our chapter helps out with the first outing on the water with the Farragut High School Fishing Club. The day starts at 11AM and runs until 3PM at Anchor Park off Turkey Creek Rd. in Farragut. Many of you have already volunteered your time and rods to help out as we grill and chill by the water while the Farragut High Club fine-tune their angling skills.

Its official the date for the "IRON MAN FLY CONTEST 2020" celebrating the 5th year of confounding, confusing, and creating general mayhem all in the name of a great cause is set! Save the date of Thursday January 23rd, 2020 when we once again descend on our partners at DEAD END BBQ for the biggest event of winter raising money to help send a deserving young girl or boy to Trout Camp in the Great Smoky Mountains each summer. This is the cabin fever-busting blues night where good times, laughs, and great food light up the winter night.

Make plans for our next chapter meeting on Thursday December 5th, 2019 at 6PM at DEAD END BBQ located at 3621 Sutherland Ave in Knoxville. This is our holiday chapter meeting as we head towards the Christmas holidays. Always a fun end of the year evening with surprises and fun, mark your calendar.

As always thanks to everyone who attends our Great Smoky Mountain TU meetings and events. It is your chapter and we invite you to get involved and be a part of this great chapter. Please bring family and friends and remember you never have to be a Trout Unlimited member to attend a GSM TU chapter activity, just a love of the outdoors and the fellowship of those who feel the same.
