LETTER FROM CHAPTER PRESIDENT-SEPTEMBER 2021

LETTER FROM PRESIDENT

It’s Labor Day Weekend and hopefully we may start to see cooler weather. This past week as the remnants of Hurricane Ida soaked our area please keep in mind our neighbors to the south and north who have suffered an enormous loss. Our sincere thoughts and prayers go out to them as they recover from the storm.

This time of year is one of my favorite seasons as we start to see the beginning of fall. It gets to be a little bit easier to find quiet water in the Great Smoky Mountains as the crowds start to thin going forward. Perfect days of 70 degrees and even cooler nights will soon be here making our area the outdoor treasure we enjoy in the fall.

Just around the corner is our 4th Annual “Battle of Gatlinburg” on Saturday September 25th, 2021. This event features the “One Fly Royale” where anglers compete for top prizes and cash from our sponsors. We need your help on that day to staff the event and is an easy way to spend a few hours in Gatlinburg on a fall day. No experience is needed just your participation and willingness to help. See the article below for all the details and how to sign up.

We are looking forward to continuing our partnership with the “Vols on the Fly5 Rivers chapter at the University of Tennessee. They have a new chapter leader Thomas Andersen, who some of you may already know from his work at 3 Rivers Angler. These students at UT not only work towards their studies but also get involved in community projects and conservation work and it is an honor to be a part of their world. They have been a part of the “Battle of Gatlinburg” the last few years working as volunteers and I invite everyone to come out and meet them this year.

In closing we want to thank you for your continued support as we adapt and adjust to the year 2021. As always you never have to be a Trout Unlimited member to attend any Great Smoky Mountain chapter meeting or event.
